Elegy No. 4 explores the long tradition of elegiac writing. It has a singular harmonic theme, which is repeated with a feeling of incessant urgency. A long, fragmented melody floats over the top of this repeated motive, almost disembodied. It is dedicated to the memory of the great guitarist Michael Hedges.
